Can You Install an Egress Window in Winter in Ohio?
Yes — we install egress windows year-round, including through Northeast Ohio winters. Frozen ground takes longer to excavate, but the concrete cutting and the window installation aren't affected by cold.
If you have the choice, scheduling before the ground freezes (before December) makes for the smoothest, fastest dig. But we don't shut down for winter, and a heated basement plus same-day backfill means your home isn't left open to the cold.
The cutting and the window work are not affected by cold. That part happens against your foundation, and the saws cut concrete the same in January as in July. What slows down is the digging. Frozen ground is harder to break, so the excavation takes a little longer and can add slightly to the cost.
If you can plan ahead, the best time is before the deep freeze sets in — roughly before December in Northeast Ohio. But we still install all winter. Once the well is dug, the rest of the job runs on schedule. And your basement stays sealed the whole time: we open the wall, set the window, and close it back up the same day, so you are never left with an open hole overnight in the cold.
