Egress Window Well Systems in Twinsburg

The right window well makes the difference between a functional egress window and a waterlogged problem. We install wells built to stay dry.

The window well is just as important as the window itself. A poorly installed well collects water, fills with debris, and defeats the purpose of your egress window. We install commercial-grade wells with proper drainage gravel, connected weeping tile, step systems for deep installations, and clear polycarbonate covers that keep rain and snow out while letting light in.

Window Well Materials

Galvanized Steel

The industry standard. Corrugated galvanized steel wells are durable, cost-effective, and available in a range of sizes to meet egress code minimums. Most residential egress installations use galvanized steel.

Stone / Block

Stacked stone or concrete block wells offer a more finished appearance — ideal if the well is visible from a deck or patio. More labor-intensive to install but integrates with landscaping naturally.

Composite / Poly

Lightweight and rot-proof composite wells are a newer option that resist rust and corrosion better than galvanized steel over time. Good choice for high-moisture environments.

Drainage System Design

Twinsburg's clay soil holds water. A window well without proper drainage is a liability. Every well we install includes a proper drainage system:

  • Minimum 12 inches of clean crushed drainage gravel at the well bottom
  • Perforated drain tile around the gravel bed
  • Connection to footer drain, sump system, or dedicated dry well
  • Geotextile fabric layer to prevent silt migration into gravel
  • Sloped gravel surface to direct water toward the drain point

Window Well Covers

We install clear polycarbonate covers that keep precipitation, leaves, and animals out while maintaining natural light transmission. All covers are easily removable from the inside without tools — a requirement for egress compliance.

Available in standard and custom sizes. Rated for typical snow loads.

Step Systems

Ohio code requires a permanent ladder or step system in any window well deeper than 44 inches from exterior grade. We install galvanized steel step ladders in deep wells — sized to allow a person to climb out unobstructed.

Steps are included in our installation quote for qualifying wells.

Common Questions

Do egress window wells need covers?

Covers aren't required by Ohio building code for egress compliance, but we strongly recommend them. A polycarbonate cover keeps rain, snow, leaves, and animals out of the well while letting light through. Importantly, Ohio code requires that any cover be easily removed from the inside without tools — so residents can escape in an emergency. We only install code-compliant, quick-release cover systems.

Will my window well fill with water?

Not if installed properly. We fill the bottom 12+ inches with clean drainage gravel and connect to a weeping tile or dedicated dry well system. Twinsburg's heavy clay soil requires this extra drainage attention — which is exactly why professional installation matters. A well with no drainage becomes a water collection point, eventually leaking into your basement.

How deep does a window well need to be?

The well must extend deep enough that the window can open fully and a person can safely climb out. Ohio code requires that wells deeper than 44 inches from the exterior grade include a permanent ladder or step system. We size wells to the actual window location and always include steps for wells exceeding code thresholds.
